Hello! It's been a while since I've uploaded, but I've been working on a lot! I ended up moving from Yokohama, Japan back to Houston, Texas (where I'm currently living) and stopped for 2 weeks in London on the way home. Before and after that time, I managed to gather my time to work on Christmas commissions and some inking exercises. Augie is the last painting I did in Japan and the rest have Kelly fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05413840900216250212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2588588602910672090.post-27741134921492354272012-11-10T23:31:00.000-05:002012-11-10T23:31:29.556-05:00Girl with a Gun
Finally spent some time this week and developed the sketch I uploaded months ago here. x. Since I am really passionate about going into the world of comics, I decided I would get the cliche, stereotypical image out of the way first: a hot girl with a gun. So I offer this up as my first attempt at digitally inking a background. It's not terrible, but it definitely needs work. I'm calling it a Kelly fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05413840900216250212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2588588602910672090.post-70075499265872853052012-11-03T02:07:00.001-04:002012-11-03T02:25:47.077-04:00Firefall Fest GarrettDecided to play around with the brush settings in Photoshop and try inking digitally in a very different way than I've done it before. As a massive Mega64 fan, I decided to use Garrett's character from their Firefall Fest stream as inspiration for experimenting with digital inking. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Things have been quiet on the blog, but I've still been working. Life has just been incredibly hectic with the move. I'm debating whether to call it quits on this blog and move to a tumblr as well. Blogspot seems like a very well and dead platform, but I've been trying to avoid tumblr just because Kelly fhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05413840900216250212noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2588588602910672090.post-91026426056269789822012-07-30T05:20:00.003-04:002012-07-30T05:20:50.044-04:00Noel Fielding Sketches (again)Experimenting with graphite and marker combined. I think it looks quite nice together for sketches. It's really easy for the graphite to get messy quickly though since I'm working so dark. Yes. Noel Fielding was the subject matter.

Coincidentally, Dark Knight Rises will be released at midnight tonight in Japan! Woohoo! I'm seeing it on the 1st (Lady's Day) as ticket prices are insane here. Very excited!
These were copied off of a sketch of Cinar's as well as Burnham's Batman Inc. cover.

His face is so hard to capture for me. It's always a fun challenge to paint him. This one's in gouache.

It's out near Akiba in the Chuo Ward so it took me quite a while to get up to the East side of Tokyo. The following photos were shot on my D40X.

I've been playing around in Illustrator with type. I'm often inspired by music and the lyrics and I've been doodling stuff like this in my sketchbooks since high school. I've always wondered what these text with images collaborations would look like if I actually took the time to finish them. This is Fire by Kasabian.

As most of you know, I'm a huge fan of music. I listen to it while I work on art, when I'm on public transportation, when I'm walking to and from places, etc. Music inspires me quite often. Recently, Noel Gallagher played at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo and I was able to go and see him perform. As a child, I loved Oasis so it really was a childhood dream fulfilled to see him play. It's been quite a while since I've done a small pet portrait. I actually haven't touched acrylics in over a year. So, this was quite refreshing to do something traditional once more. I learned how to buy canvas and paints for the first time living in Japan (as I brought my gouache with me from America). In Japan, they size the canvas according to the traditional French sizes. As you may or may not have noticed by now, I've become quite obsessed with The Mighty Boosh. I've done several portraits of Noel Fielding, but I really wanted to do character portraits of Vince Noir and Howard Moon. Collectively done in Corel Painter and Photoshop and took around 15 hours.

It's Golden Week in Japan and that means holidays for most. I decided that it was time that I overhaul my website and work on a new self portrait. My old self- portrait was from November 2009 so I was more than over-due for a new one. Corel Painter and Photoshop (the usual). I included 2 close-ups.

My first zipped hoodie design! I'm pretty pleased with this. The creative idea and initial sketch was done by my friend Varg (who commissioned me to do this). It's a 6 color design based on the game Skyrim. Completed in Adobe Illustrator and the mock-up was done in photoshop to show placement.

Have I lost my mind? I'm not quite sure. I've just started sketching Noel Fielding in my free time at work. He has such a striking face. I love it. I think I need to stop drawing Noel, but I am going to do some Mighty Boosh fan art in the near future (yay Golden Week!).
