Halloween Costumes and Etsy

Let me preface this with saying that it's rare I post something crafty, but these bows came out looking so good, I just had to post it here. I recently made Halloween "costumes" for my two dogs. It was a mutual decision not to spend money on dog costumes from the store, so I decided to make these cute little bows for them that attach to their collars with elastic. My sister acquired some scraps of fabric from work and I already had the other materials. Here's the result:

Dog Portrait

This is a portrait of one of my previous boss's dogs. She's a cute little chihuahua named Kyle. For those of you that don't know, when I was in high school, I used to work at a vet clinic. The first time I went to Japan (before I started college) I used the money I made there to fund half of the trip. My older sister still works there and asked me to paint a portrait of her boss's dog as a birthday present. I happened to have an unused 5" x 5" canvas lying around so I said, "Sure, Why not?" Here's the result of my little acrylic painting.

Dream Release

This is my submission for the James and The Giant Peach Competition over on DeviantArt.

I want to tell you a little about this piece and myself. The idea and initial drawing for this piece came from an early sketch book I kept in 9th grade (I just finished university). I found the sketch and remembered that I drew it from a recurring dream I had at the time and decided (now that I was more capable of drawing) I should go ahead and turn this simple sketch into a finished piece of art.

So here it is along side the process of how I built this piece up.

These are some simple, graphic cards that I'm putting together for a greeting cards portfolio. As I keep working on these, they are probably going to be more refined and complicated. Just trying to get my feet doing some more simple ideas.

Storybook Patterns

Per suggestion from a fan of my work, I decided to recreate some of my favorite childhood stories in my own cutesy way. The original suggestion was specifically Disney, but I am a HUGE fan of Grimm's fairy tales and Aesop's fables, etc. so I decided to take a more traditional story approach.

Since I was doing a portfolio for Carter's, I wanted to include something of my own to throw in there, that isn't really in their style, but more of my own. I figured it would be a nice patterning addition.

So the stories that are represented here are Peter Pan, Little Red Riding Hood, and Cinderella.
