End of 2012

Hello! It's been a while since I've uploaded, but I've been working on a lot! I ended up moving from Yokohama, Japan back to Houston, Texas (where I'm currently living) and stopped for 2 weeks in London on the way home. Before and after that time, I managed to gather my time to work on Christmas commissions and some inking exercises. Augie is the last painting I did in Japan and the rest have been drawn/ painted in the last 2 weeks I've been in America. I've been busy.

In other news, this might be my last post here. Please, please, PLEASE go to my Tumblr account and follow me here: http://kellyfscribbles.tumblr.com/

I WILL BE UPDATING MY TUMBLR OFTEN!!! I hope you all have brilliant New Year's parties and a beautiful and lovely 2013! Cheers!

Dog Portrait/ Leaving

I'm finishing up with Japan, spending 2 weeks in London and moving internationally back to the US. Things have been quiet on the blog, but I've still been working. Life has just been incredibly hectic with the move. I'm debating whether to call it quits on this blog and move to a tumblr as well. Blogspot seems like a very well and dead platform, but I've been trying to avoid tumblr just because of all the art theft that goes on around those parts. Speaking of art theft, I've had my share of that lately.

On to brighter topics. Here's an animal portrait I've just recently completely.

This is my last animal portrait for a while due to the move and greener pastures. As you may/ may not have noticed... I've been directing my portfolio into a different direction. Come December, I'm grafting hard into the world of comics. This blog will either be exploding or a tumblr link may be coming your way. Who knows what the future holds?

Bentley Portrait

It's been quite a while since I've done a small pet portrait. I actually haven't touched acrylics in over a year. So, this was quite refreshing to do something traditional once more. I learned how to buy canvas and paints for the first time living in Japan (as I brought my gouache with me from America). In Japan, they size the canvas according to the traditional French sizes. This is an S0 size canvas (7"x7").

This was done for a nice lady in Houston as a present for her daughter. If you would like to order a portrait of your pet, I do ship internationally (now that I live in Japan).

New Carter's Portfolio

Yes, it's that time again! I did another assessment test for Carter's (who I would LOVE to work for). These were all vectored in Adobe Illustrator (with the exception of the last floral, which I hand drew and colored in Photoshop). The idea here was to create a bunch of characters, clothing prints, and florals to be used in children's clothing. This is what I've been up to for the past 2 weeks. Hope you enjoy it.

This is some of my process work. Definitely not all of it. I think I filled about 20 pages in my small sketch book and these are about 15 of the pages compiled into one image.

Rooted Dinosaurs Shirt Design

Roots done in Photoshop. Dinos vectored in Illustrator. Mock-up done in Photoshop. The model and t-shirt photos belong to Threadless and are shown on "Cigar Brown". I don't normally wear brown, but dang I want this shirt.

Here's the process. :/

Drowning Polar Bears Shirt Design

Here's some process work. Started with some thumbnails of shirt ideas. Yes, I will be making some of the shirts on here.

If you notice in the designs, there are some light marks behind the designs. I drew 6 t-shirts and was thinking about the contours of the body and how to highlight them while I was doodling the designs. Below is the tight-sketch and mock-up of the idea in Photoshop. I was playing w/ Threadless' submission pack and really liked their "Ocean Blue" t-shirt color. Fitting right?

After the mock- up, I vectored out the design in Illustrator. It's now ready to print (3 colors). Then, I brought the design back into Photoshop to do another mock-up; the final result.
Once again, the model and t-shirt photos belong to Threadless. Normally I shoot my own photos, but this was just to fictionally display the design of the (unprinted) shirt.

Dog Portrait

This is a portrait of one of my previous boss's dogs. She's a cute little chihuahua named Kyle. For those of you that don't know, when I was in high school, I used to work at a vet clinic. The first time I went to Japan (before I started college) I used the money I made there to fund half of the trip. My older sister still works there and asked me to paint a portrait of her boss's dog as a birthday present. I happened to have an unused 5" x 5" canvas lying around so I said, "Sure, Why not?" Here's the result of my little acrylic painting.

Here's a photo of the heads of the vet clinic w/ their animals. You can see Kyle in the picture for reference.
