End of 2012

Hello! It's been a while since I've uploaded, but I've been working on a lot! I ended up moving from Yokohama, Japan back to Houston, Texas (where I'm currently living) and stopped for 2 weeks in London on the way home. Before and after that time, I managed to gather my time to work on Christmas commissions and some inking exercises. Augie is the last painting I did in Japan and the rest have been drawn/ painted in the last 2 weeks I've been in America. I've been busy.

In other news, this might be my last post here. Please, please, PLEASE go to my Tumblr account and follow me here: http://kellyfscribbles.tumblr.com/

I WILL BE UPDATING MY TUMBLR OFTEN!!! I hope you all have brilliant New Year's parties and a beautiful and lovely 2013! Cheers!

Girl with a Gun

Finally spent some time this week and developed the sketch I uploaded months ago here. x. Since I am really passionate about going into the world of comics, I decided I would get the cliche, stereotypical image out of the way first: a hot girl with a gun. So I offer this up as my first attempt at digitally inking a background. It's not terrible, but it definitely needs work. I'm calling it a success for my first attempt, but I think I'm going to stick to ink and paper for the moment.

In other news, I am working on a final commission (unexpected) of another animal portrait I will be throwing up on here in a week (once I finish painting it). Afterwards, expect a lull as I will be moving internationally, visiting London for 2 weeks, and then trying to settle down into the chaos that is the Christmas season/ building up my life back in the States. :)

Noel Fielding Sketches (again)

Experimenting with graphite and marker combined. I think it looks quite nice together for sketches. It's really easy for the graphite to get messy quickly though since I'm working so dark. Yes. Noel Fielding was the subject matter.

Batman Sketches

Today I polled if I should sketch more Noel Fielding or Batman and consensus was Batman! Coincidentally, Dark Knight Rises will be released at midnight tonight in Japan! Woohoo! I'm seeing it on the 1st (Lady's Day) as ticket prices are insane here. Very excited!

These were copied off of a sketch of Cinar's as well as Burnham's Batman Inc. cover.

Noel Fielding Gouache

Went for a jog after painting the last quick watercolor and felt like doing another portrait of Noel. His face is so hard to capture for me. It's always a fun challenge to paint him. This one's in gouache.

Noel Fielding Watercolor

Quick portrait of Noel Fielding in watercolor. Painted in my sketchbook earlier today.

Elektra Sketches

Did some sketches from Greg Horne's covers of Elektra. Still dipping my toe into the pool of comics. I love how sexy Greg can make comic book women look.

Hand Studies

Been working on some studies. Decided to start with hands and then move into heads. I also threw in some Daredevil sketches because who doesn't love Daredevil. You might recognize them as copies from Yellow. I'm a massive Tim Sale fan. I'm not however a fan of grey prismamarker brush pens. Not even good for sketching I'm afraid.

Experimental Type 2

This is more fun this time in Photoshop with type. I hand drew all of the type in her hair. I was inspired by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' song Simple Game of Genius. I was lucky enough to see him perform at the Budokan in Tokyo a couple of months ago. :)

Experimental Type 1

I've been playing around in Illustrator with type. I'm often inspired by music and the lyrics and I've been doodling stuff like this in my sketchbooks since high school. I've always wondered what these text with images collaborations would look like if I actually took the time to finish them. This is Fire by Kasabian.

NGHFB Shirt

As most of you know, I'm a huge fan of music. I listen to it while I work on art, when I'm on public transportation, when I'm walking to and from places, etc. Music inspires me quite often. Recently, Noel Gallagher played at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo and I was able to go and see him perform. As a child, I loved Oasis so it really was a childhood dream fulfilled to see him play. This shirt is dedicated to him. "If I had a gun, I'd shoot a hole into the sun And love would burn this city down for you" -Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

Sketches/ T-shirt Contest

Some stuff I've done in the past couple of days. I whipped up some quick t-shirt vectors for a contest held by the fashion blogger La Carmina. You can check out her blog here: http://www.lacarmina.com/ She's pretty awesome!

I also did some sketches while I was at school. I was invited to watch the art class. Had to get some sketching in myself. Couldn't let the kids have all the fun.

Self Portrait

It's Golden Week in Japan and that means holidays for most. I decided that it was time that I overhaul my website and work on a new self portrait. My old self- portrait was from November 2009 so I was more than over-due for a new one. Corel Painter and Photoshop (the usual). I included 2 close-ups.

Noel Fielding Sketches

Have I lost my mind? I'm not quite sure. I've just started sketching Noel Fielding in my free time at work. He has such a striking face. I love it. I think I need to stop drawing Noel, but I am going to do some Mighty Boosh fan art in the near future (yay Golden Week!).

Simon Amstell Portrait

Another fun, quick portrait I did this weekend. This one took around 4 hours. Started in Photoshop and finished in Corel Painter (the usual).

I've really gotten into British comedy as of late and I can quite honestly relate to Simon Amstell and his quirky stories. He's a brilliant comedian and if you don't know who he is, you should check out season 2 of Grandma's House (currently airing in the UK).

Archer Illustration

Here's the finished archer piece. I painted this in Corel Painter 11 and had a blast figuring out textures and lighting. I love giving myself a little challenge. I included process pictures below it. Towards the end, I changed the archer's face completely. I felt he needed to be younger and have darker hair.

Illustration WIP

I've been chatting with my friends about my portfolio and through them I came to the realization that I have very little pieces that show environments and "concept art" style work in my portfolio. I decided I'd fix that and start working with more detailed work. This week, it's my goal to work on these two pieces. Here are the sketches.

Noel Fielding Portrait

Quick portrait that I whipped up of one of my favorite actors/ comedians. I'm kind of in love with Noel and wanted to do a portrait again. Corel Painter. Maybe 3 hours.

The Crow Speed Paint

Decided I would throw up a speed painting I did last night of my own Crow. I've loved O'Barr's work for many, many years and tomorrow is the anniversary of Lee's death. I've been really sick lately and haven't been able to work on much, but I wanted to put something up since this has been on my mind. Photoshop CS4. 2 hours.
